Chip away,

Sand rough edges, varied patterns,

Circular, angular, jagged, straight,

Peel, cut, shave, reveal

New layers waiting to be born.

Trees shine, forming

Wet green networks,

Forests of leaves,

Entanglement of branches and lives,

Creeping, nesting.

Figurine

They whirled below me, happy, heartless, free,

While I was left alone, all to myself,

They danced, they sang, they even called to me;

I did not hear them, standing on my shelf

Of sorrow, hanging high upon a wall

O solomn, rigid wood; I watched that crowd

Below me, gliding through their spacious hall,

I would not join them, I was much too proud.

But suddenly my nailed shelf gave way,

I left it and went realing through the… Continue

Lois, last night I heard a interview with the reporter who wrote the book. He talked so passionately about his relationship with the homeless two stringer violin player and how he helped the man get back a bit of his life. He said the violin payer calls him almost every morning to see how he is. I related to all the reporter was saying about the difficulty of helping some of the homeless along. I worked with 15 mentally ill homeless for a year, besides the volunteer work i did for four years in Gainesville. Thanks for the tip, I'll try and get to see the movie. Sh'mal

Hi, Thanks for sharing your poem with me. I always enjoy others creative works. Creativity is a wonderful gift from God! I haven't been on here in a long time as I have other things going on in my life at the moment plus two recitals!

Hi, I just now read your poem and I love it! I used to write some poetry but haven't tried any lately . My sister is the poet and she is a published poet. You should try that. I'm sure you could be published. I just had the boys lessons today and we had fun as usual. Blessings.

Hi Lois, Yes she did and I thought I had written back to you to let you know that. I do enjoy teaching the boys very much and I'm enjoying myself on here, Facebook and MySpace. I hope life is treating you well these days.

Hi Lois, I see we're in the same city. I'm in NW houston. Where are you? I enjoyed your sonnet very much. My sister is a poet and artist. I am a piano teacher and love listening to guitar music as well. I would love to hear more of your interest in mind-body-spirit. I also would like to invite you to join my new group, Environmental Zoo where you can express your concerns, solutions, ideas or anything else you'd like to. I also have a discussion going on environmental issues. See you there?

Well, Lois, your son is quite a organizer, jumped right in on getting the Zoobird site going and has had a lot of takers quickly. I hope he does well in the garden, the space he and another took over provided me with most of my vegetables the past few years. Now in Seattle where they have many community gardens, but waiting lists of up to two years for plots, so will rely on my own organizing skills to try and find a new space for a community garden. Hope all is well in Houston. Sh'mal

I just finished a great book called MARLEY AND ME, about life and a Labrador retriever and love. If you love animals you will love this book. Lois
