Wow - So Much Going On Outside!

For those of us living in North America, we are bracing ourselves for a winter blizzard on the east coast. I hear from reliable sources that it's beautiful outside this morning.

Also, a bunch of planets are going to align over the next month and it will be fun to go outside and see them. Here's a …

Active streets!

Active Streets Gainesville, an event that focused on active transportation happened last weekend. University Ave was shut down to autos for several blocks near Main Street. People rode bikes, skateboards, and walked around enjoying the moment with no automobile traffic.

Gainesville,…

Zoma's Sauerkraut

Zoma's Sauerkraut

Zoma makes some mighty fine kraut! I just bought some and it's good. It has a light, appealing flavor and it's delicious. I got mine at a local (to Gainesville, FL) place called The Community Co-op, which is a community owned store that does its best to offer high quality, locally…

Favorite Photos of 2011

Otter

This is my favorite photo from 2011. Otters frolicking at Alexander Spring in Florida. Tough choice! Alexander Spring is an incredibly nice camping spot. This was on a full moon weekend. We canoed in the moonlight, cooked over an open fire. It doesn't get any better than Alexander Spring, but it's worth trying!

What are your favorite photos and times from last year?…

The Dudley Historic Farm

One of my favorite places is the Dudley Historic Farm in Alachua County, Florida. It's so beautiful!

The farm is preserved and looks just like it did years ago when we lived in a more self-sufficient world. You can see in the picture above that the home is surrounded by gardens. There, even today, you'll see live crops of veggies…

Get Spiritual, Eat Sweet, or Give Kombucha a Kick ::: You Pick!

South Moon Blueberry Farm

There’s a book called “Finding God in the Garden”, by Balfour Brickner…

You can read (I like it) or you can go outside and discover a few things yourself. What’s a You Pick farm? It’s a farm where you visit and pick your own fruit. There’s a new

hostel in Gainesville called “The Zen Hostel”. Owner Tobe Terrell gave

me a book…

Dreaming of Black Creek

I've been excited like a little kid since I got my new bike Monday. The short story is I love riding bikes. Bill Hannahs told me about this bike he noticed for sale sort of near me. It was in Florida, at least. So, I drove up the coast of the panhandle to Freeport, FL and wound up getting it. To me, riding a bike is a lucky situation that I can take advantage of because I am usually within biking… Continue
