Steps Toward Inner Peace
I was walking in the garden the other day and I found a little booklet in the grass. It's called "Steps Toward Inner Peace", by Peace Pilgrim. I found several aspects of the booklet interesting. For one thing, it's written by a contemporary woman who says making money was easy for her. She chose to give up a conventional material pursuit in favor of a life spent trying to be happy and…

Chi Gung is the Alphabet

Chi Gung is a form of exercise that I learned about here in Seaside, OR at the Seaside Hostel. Trung, the instructor, said Chi Gung is the alphabet, Tai Chi is the language. Nice!

Patience
"The Dalai Lama shows no anger toward the Chinese, even though the policy of the Chinese government for years has been to practice genocide toward Tibetans, culturicide toward their institutions, beliefs, everything they hold dear, and geocode toward the very land they live on. When asked about his apparent lack of anger toward…

(Photo of two otters playing at Alexander Springs, FL taken by Michael Levin 2/19/11)
Remember that you ought to behave in life as you would at a banquet. As something is being passed around, it comes to you. When it comes to you, stretch out your hand gently, take a portion of it politely, but pass it on. Or, it has not come to you yet. Do not…

Bike of The Day {BOTD} ::: Brompton

Today’s {BotD} Bike of the Day is a Brompton folding bike…
Bromptons have been around for years. They’re made in England. I spotted this one at the Hawthorne Hostel in Portland, Oregon. It’s not the first folding bike I’ve seen at the
hostel. Last year, another traveler came on a Dahon he loved so much he
had it chrome plated!…

Something to think about...

I had just finished a trip to Brazzaville, Republic of Congo and then Morocco. Came back to NYC, staying on E14th Street at the hostel. It
was a quiet mid-morning on Sunday, I believe. I walked from the hostel to a coffee shop, then to a park.

And, on the way back, I looked up and saw this guy lying…
