SUMMARY:Edible Plant Project
DESCRIPTION:Sunday nursery work party\n\nHi everyone. Last week we had
an unusually spread-out work party. Cecelia and Norman came in early
and brought us a load of pine bark, and I think also picked themselves
some blueberries. Dan and I arrived afterwards. I cleaned up our bad-
pot dump, and another spot, so that we would have room for plants that
had been growing in, in the shade house, and pulled lots of weeds, wh
ile Dan mixed soil and planted figs. I also harvested some of my tomat
oes. Then, Dan and Ping did a tag-team switch out. Ping finished Dan's
pot of fig cuttings, then she and I pulled some more weeds. After tha
t we planted some white-seeded callaloo in our garden. By that time, t
he heat was getting to me, and when I finished my gallon of gatorade,
we decided to call it quits.\n\nWe'll be back to our fun in the sun th
is coming Sunday at 11am. The weeds will undoubtedly all have grown ba
ck, and we also have figs and pineapple guava to put in pots, as well
as some more seedlings that would like to be in our garden.\n\nThe wea
ther forecast seems to indicate a return to our normal summer rains, a
fter a nearly two week drought that has nearly killed the sugar cane a
nd sunchoke crops, and shriveled lots of formerly good blueberries. If
the weather chooses to give us more water from the sky this Sunday, w
e will work inside the greenhouse. And again, the gate will be closed
when you get here. Please let yourself in and close it behind you, and
maybe even throw the chain around something too, so it almost looks l
 ocked.\n\nSee you there,\n\nMichael\n\nDirections to The Nursery\n\nOu
r nursery is located at: The Gainesville Organic Blueberry Farm, 1621
SE 15th Street, Gainesville, FL 32641.\n\nIt is a little hidden away s
o be sure to print out these directions and bring them with you the fi
rst time you come!\n\nIf you get lost call Michael 561 236 2262.\n\n*
Go East on University until the road splits to the right for Hawthorne
Road.\n* Turn right onto Hawthorne Road (State Road 20).\n* Take the
next right onto SE 15th Street.\n* Go South on 15th Street for about 1
.2 miles to the old Blueberry Farm. On the way you will pass a church
on the left and sports fields from Lincoln Elementary School on the ri
ght. Later, you will see a second church on the left, white with a blu
e stripe. The church has a parking area and a field on the south side.
\n* Just past the church paking area and field is the fence of the Org
anic Blueberry Farm. There is a ditch and road along the fence but don
’t use it since the back gate will be closed.\n* Continue on to the
main entrance of the Bluberry Farm which will be on the left past the
mail box. There is a blue building which is hard to see from the stree
t since it is covered with vegetation. The address is 1621 SE 15th St.
but since there is no street number sign on the fence or building loo
k for the old mailbox to turn.\n* Enter past the blue building and you
will see a greenhouse on the left. Drive around the garden area to th
e greenhouse and park anywhere. We are usually in the garden area or t
he greenhouse.\n\nFor information concerning blueberry picking at the
