SUMMARY:Introductory Mushroom Workshop
DESCRIPTION:\nGainesville’s Dr. James Kimbrough and naturalist Mycol
  Stevens will conduct an introductory mushroom workshop on the permacu
 lture homestead called Finca Mycol in north Alachua County. Dr. Kimbro
 ugh is the author of many publications, including the book Common Flor
 ida Mushrooms, and has been the curator of the fungal herbarium at the
  University of Florida since the 1960’s. Mycol is a biologist with t
 he Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commision who has been collect
 ing, eating, and observing wild mushrooms since the early 90’s. This
  workshop will focus on Florida’s edible, poisonous, and medicinal m
 ushrooms, as well as growing techniques. A mushroom slide show will be
  presented and a handout provided. The workshop will start with mycolo
 gy 101 (how to identify mushrooms) and will go into poisonous and edib
 ility rules-of-thumb. We will then go on a mushroom “hunt” in the 
 afternoon and cook up any known delicacies we find, and label and key 
 out other unknowns. Bring camera, notebook, field guides etc. This is 
 a rare opportunity so don’t miss your chance!\n\nDate: July 31th, 9a
