 i, journalist and author of\nStanding Alone in Mecca: An American Woma
 n’s Struggle for the Soul\nof Islam, will be speaking Thursday, Sept
 ember 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at\nthe University of Central Florida in t
 he Cape Florida Ballroom of the\nStudent Union. Her presentation will 
 be on \"The Paradox of Women in\nIslam.\"\n\nNomani, a Muslim born in 
 India who later immigrated to America with her\nfamily, is a former Wa
 ll Street Journal correspondent. She has also\nworked extensively in t
 he Middle East and South Asia and written\nmultiple articles for leadi
 ng newspapers and magazines. She covered and\nanalyzed the major event
 s taking place, as well as reported from the\nfront lines on the post 
 9-11 conflict in Afghanistan and throughout the\nregion.\n\nOne of the
  last people to see her best friend, Wall Street Journal\nreporter Dan
 iel Pearl, alive, Asra Nomani figures prominently in the\nacclaimed fi
 lm, A Mighty Heart, starring Angelina Jolie. The film\ncaptures Daniel
 's wife Mariane and as they struggle to get answers and\nprovide each 
 other consolation and support during the dark days\nsurrounding his ab
 duction and murder. Nomani continues to search for the\ntruth about wh
 o killed Daniel through The Pearl Project, an\ninvestigative program s
 he now heads at Georgetown University.\n\nThe event is free and open t
