HOME VAN PET CARE PROJECT NEWS:  August 2010

From:    Elizabeth Howard, Project Coordinator

May All Be Fed

May All Be Heard

May All Be Loved

John Robbins, Founder of EarthSave

It’s August, “dog days” and very  hot. Please carry small or large containers of drinking water with you if at all possible. You can offer water to a person who looks to be in need, and also ask if they need water for a pet. Home Van is requesting donations of bottled drinking water and you can contact them direct at barupa@atlantic.net.

The task of Home Van Pet Care Project is to provide food for pets of the homeless as Home Van shares food with the people. We also interact with local rescue groups and veterinary service providers to help the animals to help the animals. Contact us to locate resources at holisticliz@hotmail.com

UPDATE: The little dog Heartbeat is in foster care and up for adoption through Second Chance Farms. You will remember that she was seriously when she was struck by a car a few months ago. She received wonderful medical care through the Shelter Medicine Program at UF and now has a clean bill of health. You can see her photo at www.secondchancefarms.org.

Midnight, our special needs kitty from the Tent City Tribe is well again and adopted into a loving home.

HELP WANTED: Friendly visitors for our cat colony in Tent City. We will guide you and introduce you to our caretakers. Then we ask that you visit once a week, taking food and treats, which we provide. It doesn’t take long and makes a huge difference to the colony cats.

HELP WANTED: Our original cat colony is of course all spayed and neutered, but a very wild mama kitty passed through leaving her babies in our care at a campsite down the path. These kits are being fed, and it is important that we get them into the clinic now. There are a variety of tasks
involved here and many hands and hearts can make it an easy project.

HELP WANTED:  Yes, there are new pups. Thankfully they are adopted and making their way to the St. Francis Vet Clinic. Both cat and dog caretakers need help with transport to clinic, supportive friends, and sometimes foster care.

DONATION:  Home Van Pet Care Project is in need of a small size pickup truck in good repair, with a camper top. We transport lots of food and pet care items as well as animals at times. If you have a vehicle you could donate or can seek such a donation for us, please let us know.

We thank you again for your thoughtfulness in your donations to Home Van Pet Care and for all your support in so many ways.

We always need bags of cat food and dog food, and small cans of “fishy” cat food. Call 352-473-9423 to arrange for drop off. Financial donations to Home Van Pet Care Project should be made payable to St. Vincent DePaul Society, earmarked for Home Van Pet Care, and mailed to P.O. Box
14305, Gainesville, FL 32604.
