Mike, So glad I was able to prepare a good cup of tea for you. I had a wonderful lesson from my friend Junnon. I'd made some green tea with boiling water, instead of slightly cooler (180 F) and she asked me, "can't you smell how it smells a little…

Glad to see a CSA Zoo. I was a member of a CSA in Charlottesville VA before moving to Gainesville (1998-2000) and am now a member of Plowshares in Gainesville. I LOVE it. I think what I like best is the relief from decision making and the challenge…

Hi Carla, I just wrote out a lengthy comment for you and must have forgotten to hit the comment button. I'd like to invite you to be my friend and also to join my new group, Environmental Zoo, where you can share your concerns, ideas, solutions, or anything else you'd like to share. I used to do a lot of canning and freezing of fruits and vege's especially in Colorado where I had a huge garden and there were lotz of fruit orchards. I just checked out your discussion on freezing greens. Wish I could garden again.

Hi Carla, I'm fairly new to this site and getting acquainted with a lot of nice people. I'm going to check out your discussion on freezing greens. I used to do a lot of gardening, freezing, and canning of fruits and vege's especially when I lived in Colorado where I had a huge garden and there were a lot of fruit orchards. I'd be interested to know more of your interest in mind-body-spirit. I also would like to invite you to join my new group, Environmental Zoo where you can discuss your concerns, solutions, ideas, or anything else you'd like to share. I also have en environmental discussion going. Of course I'd like to invite you to become my friend as well. Have a beautiful day!

Reading List

Barry Hannah's Long Shadow

One afternoon in July, the author Barry Hannah took to the small roads south of Oxford, Mississippi, where he lives, to visit the grave of friend and fellow writer Larry Brown. Hannah hadn’t been out this way in some months. He missed an important turn at a place called the Yocona River Inn and had to stop at a country store to ask directions...

Grow Your Own Spring Salad Mix | Garden Guides

If you're craving fresh greens and horrifed by supermarket prices, why not grow your own? Nothing tastes fresher and sweeter than a spring salad just picked from your own windowsill or garden. The best time to harvest Mesclun is early in the morning before the sun is high; heat causes wilting. Start harvesting when the greens are two inches long, never letting them get more than six inches tall; use scissors to snip them off just above the growing crowns (about one inch above the soil level). This is called the cut-and-come-again method because the crop will grow back; if you water and lightly fertilize after harvesting, the greens should be ready for harvest again soon.

What Is Kombucha?

Kombucha is a living health drink made by fermenting tea and sugar with the kombucha culture. The result can taste like something between sparkling apple cider and champagne, depending on what kind of tea you use. It's not what you'd imagine fermented tea to taste like.

Masticating Juicer

A masticating juicer is the answer to every juicing problem. Because it operates on the mastication process, this type of juicer chews the fibers and breaks up the cells of vegetables and fruits. This give you more fiber, enzymes, vitamins and trace minerals. This all results in the darker, richer color of the juice and a sweeter, richer more full-bodied flavor.

I have one of these! I just bought it on craigslist, but it's called a "Imperial Golden Harvest 9901" - I think it's the same thing. If you like juicing, join the Zoobird Juice Lovers group.
