Event Description

PAIN: UNDERSTANDING IT, CHANGING IT, RELIEVING IT

Do you suffer from any kind of chronic or recurring pain? Or do you work with people who do? Is this pain no longer a useful signal that warns of danger? Does it merely nag you and interfere with life?

Pain is an important warning signal. But often it outlives its usefulness and persists when the information it gives is no longer relevant. Many people have ongoing neck pain, back pain, headache, or cancer pain. They may have done all that is medically possible for the condition. Yet they find themselves needing medications with undesirable side effects, and/or having to forgo the pleasurable activities that make life worthwhile.

One should never try to get rid of pain in place of medical diagnosis and treatment of the underlying condition. However, once the underlying medical issue is addressed, non-pharmacological relief can make life fun again, and avoid the problems such as dependency and addiction that may result from reliance on medications.

Class includes:
• The nature of pain: it's only a signal!
• Relaxation exercises (30% pain relief with relaxation alone)
• Guided visualization to reduce, change, and disperse pain
• Quick relief techniques
• Thinking and talking about pain: See it differently! Help it relieve its grip!

Class will be held October 3 at Florida School of Massage, 10 AM-5 PM.

Cost: $75 with registration one month in advance, otherwise $80.

Class is open to everyone; massage therapists receive 6 hours CE, Florida and NCBTMB.
