Dangerously organic!
This phalaenopsis is the most trouble free plant I've ever had. Our friends gave it to us as a dinner gift one evening. That was over 10 years ago. I do absolutely nothing to it. It lives in the shade and feeds on air and moisture. Every so often, it surprises us with some blossoms that last a long time.…

Hello, McRorie Gardeners!
Signs of Spring are all around at the garden! I saw this beautiful robin kicking up a dust storm yesterday. The garden is looking so good! I just planted the first few plants for the upcoming season:…

Boy, oh boy... It's beautiful here in the Swamp. I'm writing this from Florida on a sunny, sunny day. I've been traveling a lot lately and have not checked my garden patch for weeks at the beautiful McRorie Community Garden. But, this week's the week to drop by and see how the sprouts have grown. That's the nice thing about a garden. As long as you don't have turbulent…

Hello Zoobird! Yes, here in Gainesville, FL the garden is fine, thanks! I've got lots of plants growing in my patch: my tomatoes, courtesy of Farmer John, are thriving. They have flowered and I'm just waiting for the birds and the bees to do their thing and get the tomatoes going. I planted some spinach and it's doing fine. My biggest challenge is telling sprouts…

I planted some mesclun mix, carrots and onion seeds yesterday and watered the tomato sprouts. Click on the photo above to see a set of springtime community garden photos I took.
Everything in the garden is green, green, green and blooming. Some things are fruiting. You can see baby beans, peppers and all sorts of produce coming up.
The…

Good day, all! It's 75F (24C) and puffy white clouds in a blue, blue sky. The air here in Florida is full of the smells of Spring. Anyone with citrus trees has harvested their fruit by now. The citrus flowers have bloomed and the cycle has begun again. My day is beginning with the sounds…

Today indeed was a great day at the garden. You're looking at the end of the story.
It all began early today with all the windows open at our little home. The birds were singing way before dawn. If you've never been to Florida, I suggest you choose March as the month to make your visit. The citrus trees and anything else that blooms…

One of my thrills being back in Gainesville after three years is my return to the McRorie Community Garden on SW 4th Ave. I planted it early this fall with the help of a friend who maintained it while I was away. I’m so impressed about how productive it quickly became with very large broccoli heads, prolific and large collard leaves, salad greens galore and other veggies.
Something came to mind about gardening that I hadn’t quite felt before: How gardening is a…

Ron Chandler gave me a handful of peppers the other day. I still have a few left. They are the ones you see on the left of the photo above. The 4 round ones are tangy and a little hot. Ron described the long one, the one you see with a little bit out of it, as hot. But, I think it's pretty mild.…
